Located in Chesapeake Bay, Accomack County, VA. Most of Tangier Island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The highest point of land on the island is only 4 feet above sea level. Since the 1800s Tangier has lost more than 60% of its habitable landmass to erosion and rising waters. It is estimated by some that what remains of the island will succumb sometime within the next 100 years.
